"Hanging" Rock

We all went on a hiking expedition for Mother's Day to Hanging Rock State Park. The weather was absolutely beautiful the entire day. It was our first real trip to the mountains of NC since we moved here 2 years ago.

We were able to hike to two waterfalls and get behind one of them. Xander has been asking to see a real waterfall so that was the driving force to go on this expedition. Hanging rock has 3 water falls. We skipped the third since it was not near our location and decided we had to see hanging rock.

The trail for Hanging Rock is listed by the park service as 1.3 miles and moderate in difficulty. I would say it might be the longest 1.3 miles I have hiked as it is straight up!

About half way up Xander said, "We're going to see 'hanging' rock." He made air quotes as he said "hanging" and we burst out laughing. Of course then he did it another 20 times...

All complaining aside, it was well worth the trip. The view was amazing. We are already talking about a trip back to see the fall foliage.

Take a look at the pics of our day here... Pics
